Launch of Uplink Challenge for Corporate Intrapreneurs

Corporate Social Intrapreneurship is increasingly recognised as a powerful source of inspiration and innovation to renew corporate purpose as well as a business imperative. The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, together with Salesforce and their partners, are launching a World Economic Forum UpLink innovation challenge to promote Corporate Social Intrapreneurship and encourage a new generation of corporate intrapreneurs who demonstrate that companies can contribute to advancing social and environmental equity, while also increasing value for the business.

We are delighted to welcome François Bonnici, Garance Wattez-Richard and Polly Sumner who will present this innovation challenge and discuss the important role that intrapreneurship plays as a critical tool to develop purposeful businesses that drive both social and economic impact.


François Bonnici, Director of the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship and Head a Social Innovation at the World Economic Forum, François Bonnici is a public health physician, professor, social change practitioner, foundation leader and author of a new book, The Systems Work of Social Change. His career is rooted in front-line medical and humanitarian practice and has evolved to advance social change work across sectors and systems. He currently serves as Director of the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship and Head a Social Innovation at the World Economic Forum. He was previously the founding Director of the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation at the University of Cape Town where he remains Adjunct Associate Professor. He has been recognised as an Archbishop Tutu African Leadership Fellow, Rhodes Scholar, and serves as a Visiting Fellow of the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship. François attained his medical degree from the University of Cape Town, MBA from the University of Oxford, and MSc from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.


Garance is CEO of AXA Emerging Customers, a business she founded in 2016 that aims to protect
the un(der)served populations, from low to middle income, across Emerging Markets - and
increasingly in Mature ones.

She has been working for AXA in a variety of capacities, ranging from Executive Assistant to the AXA IM CEO, to Global head of AXA IM Research Marketing and AXA Group Head of External Communications. Amongst other initiatives, she launched the SheForShield report in partnership with the IFC & Accenture, the first industry report of its kind to highlight the significant opportunity for the insurance industry of bbetter protecting women, across income brackets and geographies. She previously worked for strategy consultancies and multilateral organisations.
She holds a BA Finance & Management from Université Paris IX Dauphine (MSG), an MSc in economics & International Relations from the London School of Economics (LSE - MSc Politics of the World Economy), another from Sciences PO Paris in Economics (DEA Economie Appliquée) and an MBA from INSEAD. She sits on the Boards of Baobab (ex-MicroCred) and
the Bharti AXA JVs.
Garance is the winner of the first Women in Insurance Award of the Geneva Association, and is a Schwab Foundation Social Innovation awardee.

Polly Sumner is President, Services and Customer Adoption at Salesforce. She holds a BA in History and Political Science, Northern Arizona University; MSc, American Graduate School of International Management. Formerly: with McDonnell Douglas and IBM. 1987-99, with Oracle including, Vice-President and Senior Vice-President, sales and alliances; President and Chief Executive Officer, Alphablox, grew company from US$ 5 million to US$ 25 million in two years; President, Global Services, Telecordia. Since 2008, in her current position, oversees technology and marketing for Force.com platform, alliances with global independent software vendors and service partners, professional services organization.
